The Office of Military Affairs and Veterans Services (MAVs) at Worcester State University has opened a new lounge dedicated to student veterans. The MAVs lounge is a space designed to foster community, connection, and support for those who have served.
Previously located near the Career Development Center entrance, the MAVs lounge has moved to room 310 in the Student Center, offering a larger and more private setting where veterans can gather, study, or unwind between classes.
The relocation marks a major improvement over the previous space and has already contributed to the growth of the Military Affairs and Veterans (MAVs) Club, which now counts around 20 active members. The club hopes to become a recognized major organization on campus, unlocking additional resources to expand its events and outreach efforts.
According to members of the MAVs Club, the new lounge is part of an ongoing initiative to increase visibility and resources for Worcester State’s military-affiliated community. Plans are underway to decorate the space with military flags, memorabilia, and other items honoring the service and heritage of WSU’s veterans.
Alex VanAntwerp, the AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer who oversees the lounge, said the team is also working to extend office hours to make the space more accessible. For now, the lounge is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with occasional after-hours events.
Student veterans, ROTC cadets, and military-affiliated students are encouraged to stop by to connect with peers and learn more about available benefits and programs. Whether seeking guidance on educational assistance and VA benefits, or simply finding a place to belong, the new MAVs lounge aims to serve as a welcoming hub for Worcester State’s veteran community.
