Worcester State’s theatre club Almost Off Book presents She Kills Monsters, a play by Qui Nguyen, on February 14th and 15th at 7:30 p.m. in the Fuller Theatre located in the Administration Building. Almost Off Book is a student-directed club at Worcester State known for plays and comedy. She Kills Monsters is about a woman named Agnes Evan who starts to play her late younger sister’s Dungeons and Dragons campaign, discovering truths about the game and her sister along the way If you want to know more about what happens, go see it! She Kills Monsters deals with many different and important themes, such as grief, being your most authentic self, and queerness. There have been two instances where high schools in America have banned the show. When asked about the bannings, director Delaney DeNorscia said, “It’s absolutely disheartening how much homophobia and hate there is in our world right now, but that’s why I also think [She Kills Monsters] is an important show for our time; it really is a celebration of queerness…and it ties strongly into the themes about embracing what makes us unique, and how this uniqueness helps us find ‘our people.’” DeNorscia and Almost Off Book have been working hard on She Kills Monsters for about eight weeks. Seeing the play is about so much more than just Dungeons and Dragons, and is a worthwhile experience for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in a fantasy world, while embracing who they are at heart.
Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for students and can be purchased at the ticket booth in the Administration Building. For more information about the play and club, visit Almost Off Book’s Instagram page @almostoffbookwsu.
